Here is what you need in terms of the COLA for your taxes ;

What you need from Manulife to complete your taxes as far as the SISIP/COLA goes.

One T4A for normal Monthly LTD payments.

One T4A for the COLA.

One T5 for the interest.

Receipt from MC to claim Legal Fees paid.

They are not sending out a T1198 , so we do not claim that.

With respect to your premiums paid to SISIP , SISIP should send you a letter if requested by yourself with the total amount you paid since day one.
Make sure you ask them for an approximate timeline as to when your to expect it.

Also I do believe your to claim those premiums on line 104 of your tax return.

Oh good point. Now i have to get that too.

sisip contacts will not do it. I have to phone the main line. Will try it on Monday.

It is a big deduction. We have line 107 on 2 t4a's this year. Our monthly check and cola backdate.

Is it only within the first year because I was a zero sum so I did not receive any money during my first two years and did not receive any money in the years following because I did not submit medical reports due to being zeroed out? This year , 2016 , due to winning my appeal is the first year since my release in 2009 that I will receive LTD benefits monthly , the other years were lump sum back pays. So will this year be considered my first year?

I do believe you have to contact SISIP to get your total amounts that you paid in premiums.

and that is the total you paid to sisip since you joined. but how much is that. I pay 40 a month now. for 27 in thats $12,960.00 deduction. Except I did not pay $40 a month in 1983! so how do we find the total!

Are the LTD benefits taxable? Yes. However, during the first year you become a claimant all the LTD premiums paid during your military career can be deducted for tax purposes.

Others can correct me if I'm wrong , I do believe it is SISIP themselves who can give you a letter with the amounts of premiums paid to date.

When I enter the amounts on line 107, you can claim everything you paid to sisip since 1967, or 1983 in my case.

PLEASE does anyone know how to figure out the amount we have payed into sisip so far!

Everyone who received COLA will get a T5.

Well if both Rex & Firebird were not receiving Monthly LTD payments in 2015 perhaps that group of individuals are having their COLA T4,s completed differently then those receiving Monthly payments.
Perhaps splitting within the COLA numbers resulting in issuing two separate T4's for their COLA.
Just a guess...could be wrong but can't think of any other reason...unless of course we hear reports of some receiving three T4,s two for the COLA an one for their regular Monthly payments...then that will prove my theory wrong.

I got a T5 for the interest.

I got the same thing. two T4's for the cola, and I have no idea why. The only thing I can think of is one is the actual COLA, and the second one is for the interest. but since they are both placed into box 107, it seems like an unnecessary complication
